Tablet and Capsule Laser Drilling Machines with Optional Vision Inspection

Today’s advanced osmotic tablet relies on the use of a small aperture created by a laser hole drilling machine. Through that precise hole, medications are released into the body at a controlled rate over time. These sub-millimeter sized microholes must be drilled to precisely the right size and position on the tablet or patient safety could be at risk. Ackley offers a full line of precision laser drilling systems, from small batch and R&D applications to full-scale production. Our lasers can accurately drill single or bi-layer tablets and feature a color recognition system to ensure the correct layer of the tablet is drilled every time. They can drill either single or multiple apertures, and allow users to store over 25 pre-programmed “recipes” making it easy to switch over between different products and pill sizes.  A user-friendly touchscreen interface allows for ease of operation and easy-to-swap carrier links and parts make changing between products quick and simple.

Our Ackley laser drilling systems are equipped with a vision inspection system to confirm the presence and diameter of each aperture with a single tablet rejection system to remove individual defective products. Additionally, we have integrated advanced NIR inspection technology into our laser hole drilling machines to create systems that perform automatic NIR inspection before tablet drilling and vision inspection occur.
